Let's play something new. Completely for fun, not real dollars. We'll barter imaginary HRC buccobucks, or buccos (§) for every high school, college and NFL team. It'll work like this:
Each listed member of the HRC forums (those of us who post have IDs) will be allotted §100,000. You can spend your buccos however you want by bidding for shares of any team. Each team will have a limited supply of 10 million shares. Sounds like a lot, but it's really not much if you consider that all of us will probably spend a large portion of our buccos on Kahuku or Saint Louis, even Hawaii, and also Indianapolis. (Keep in mind that expensive shares of a team may not grow as much as cheaper shares of another team.)
The trick is, the market will be determined less by how well (or poorly) teams play, and far more by what we as buyers and sellers think of the teams.
Each participant can buy shares of teams from the "bank" that will be supervised by me, and when the bank no longer has shares, individuals can only get them from a shareholder. Any transaction between individuals has to be proposed to me for approval, but expect very little interference on my part. This will be a free market by and large.
Also, shares of individual players and coaches are available for trading (buying/selling). Examples: Colt Brennan, Tony Dungy.
KEY NOTE: At the end of each weekend, as the Market Maker, I will re-assess each team/player/coach listed in our buccobucks market and reset the updated value. For example, if the most recent transaction for UH was a price of §50, and UH wins big over the weekend, I may reset the UH shares at §55 or §60 or more. If UH loses, however, I may reset the shares at §45 or lower.
You as a shareholder in UH buccobucks shares may then want to sell or buy to another individual to lock in your "profits" or cut your "losses." (I will keep a weekly tally of everyone's "portfolio" so that we know what your buying power is before making transactions with other individuals.
Whoever ends up with the most buccobucks at the end of the season — after the Super Bowl — will be determined as the Buccobucks Champion and have bragging rights on these message boards for the entire off-season.
I know this sounds kind of complex and geeky, but I think it could be a lot of fun. We'll see where basic rationale and irrational enthusiasm connect and disconnect.
The opening "price" for every team will be determined as we go along, when bids for shares of any particular team are made. Once the first shares of any team are sold, it will be you guys who bargain with each other for a negotiated buccobucks price of a team's shares.
I'll set the opening price based on the team's history and current performance.
Feel free to ask questions any time.
